Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Have you ever had to have some kind of surgery? It’s never fun, but it’s often necessary to cut us open and repair an ailment. In our spiritual lives, surgery may be needed, and we happen to know the BEST surgeon in town. The truth of God’s Word can cut into our hearts and minds, not to destroy but to heal.
But what is this “Word of God?” It refers to the written Word of God, the Spirit-inspired words of the prophets and the apostles. It refers to the ultimate embodiment of truth incarnate, Jesus Christ. It’s the message of God proclaimed – the spoken word of God.
And what about the characteristics of God’s Word? It is “living” – not dead words on a page. It is “powerful” – effective and constantly moving forward. It is “sharp” – it doesn’t bludgeon; it cuts through with razor-edge precision. God’s Word can reveal what is carnal and what is spiritual, what is emotional and what is eternal.
Do you need spiritual surgery? Let God’s Word do its healing work.
Under the knife,
