Hebrews 5:13-14
For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Hebrews 5:13-14
If you depend on milk for your only nourishment and never go beyond those “first principles of the oracles of God,” (Hebrews 5:12) you will be an inexperienced Christian, unskilled when it comes to thinking and acting in maturity, continually dwelling on the basic ABCs of the Christian faith. Unfortunately, many are tied to the apron strings of religion where spiritual babyhood is fostered by ritualism.
So, the answer is in the doing. We advance to the meat of the Word by DOING the things that lead to spiritual stability and continued growth. Things like: practicing spiritual disciplines (Bible reading, prayer, fellowship), walking in obedience, looking out for others, sharing our faith with world around us… to name a few. If you stop pushing a rock uphill, it will roll over you. Your ability to withstand trials, resist temptation, persevere through hardship goes right out the window if we don’t simply do what He says.
Ready for solid food,
