John 12:2-3

John 12:2-3

There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.  Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair.  And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

John 12:2-3

Jesus had come to the town of Bethany and He headed over to the house of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.  And as dinner was being prepared, we are told that Martha was working in the back serving.  Lazarus was hanging with Jesus at the dinner table.  And then there was Mary worshipping at the feet of Jesus.   We are told that Mary poured a pound of very costly spikenard of oil over Jesus’ feet and wiped His feet with her hair.  She was literally at His feet worshipping the Lord.

What a beautiful picture of the heart of worship! As it is described here, worship is costly.   Worship cost Mary not only her costly spikenard oil, but she was also criticized about it.  “What is she doing?” Judas would ask. When we are truly lifting up our lives in worship, sometimes people may point fingers at you and me.  But so be it.  Let’s worship the Lord! The one who points fingers is the one who is missing out. How good it is to worship our Lord!
