John 5:8-9

John 5:8-9

Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

John 5:8-9

We find Jesus here speaking to a paralyzed man, lying on his bed by a pool with many others with various ailments. He’s waiting for the water to be stirred up by an angel. The belief was that if they were the first to make it in the water when this happened, then they would be healed. Jesus’ words to this man were, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” That’s a pretty cruel thing to say to a paralyzed man, but Jesus had a better solution than waiting for an angel to blow bubbles in a pool. He asked this man to do the impossible and as this man, without a word of protest or argument, does what Jesus said, he receives strength and gets up!

You know when you see your problem as more than you can handle and realize that left with your own ideas and strength you’re without hope, then you will be open to hear God’s solution for your situation and receive strength from the Lord.
