John 8:32
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32
People sometimes say they wish they never knew the truth if they had the option of not getting hurt. In reality, the truth is usually the best medicine for toxic situations. We may not want to hear it, but that is only because we dislike discomfort. When something acting like a parasite in our lives is removed, we feel relief. Sometimes, the removal process is time-consuming and can be painful. But the relief and the feeling of “true” freedom is something that is not soon forgotten. Many delivered lives from addictions can attest to that.
Jesus was trying to relay to His disciples that if they abide in His word, they are truly followers and free from the restrictions of the law. They were having a difficult time understanding that He would soon have to physically leave them to be put to death. What He would be leaving them, however, was much more than they ever could imagine. When Christ took the cross upon Himself, He made the way for faith and obedience to be the way to His heart. When the world tries to tie you down with “red tape” and confusion, remember Jesus said that He was the way, the truth, and the life. It’s the kind of truth that sets us free permanently.
God Bless,
