Judges 8:22-23

Judges 8:22-23

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also; for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian.” But Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; the LORD shall rule over you.

Judges 8:22-23

The people were so excited in the victory of the Midianites that they saw Gideon as their hero and the one who brought the victory. So they said to him, “You rule over us, you and your sons after you!” But Gideon was quick to answer them, “No! The Lord shall rule over you, not me or my sons.”

The Lord is the one you want ruling over your life, not elders, pastors, or any man. Those in the ministry are there to serve and assist you, not rule over you. In 2 Corinthians 1:24, Paul writes, “Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.”

Why do we have a tendency to look to man for direction? It’s easy for us to go to a brother and ask him, “Tell me what I should do?” But it’s far better for us to seek the Lord and ask Him, “Father, what are your desires for me?” He will never steer you wrong.
