Leviticus 16:2

Leviticus 16:2

[And] the Lord said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.”
Leviticus 16:2

Prior to Jesus’ redemptive work, there were strict regulations for approaching God, and approaching in the wrong manner could result in death (v1). Our relationship with God required a mediator to approach God, and sacrificial blood had to be shed before the priest could approach God. Oh, how Jesus changed that for us!

Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross completely changed mankind’s relationship with God. Prior to Jesus, only the high priest could meet with God behind the veil, but now we can “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). Now we can boldly enter the throne room of the universe. Jesus’s sacrifice changed it all for us, because His blood cleansed us from sin, and through his righteousness, we can fellowship directly with the Father.

Oh, what a savior,
isn’t He wonderful,
sing hallelujah Christ is risen,
bow down before Him,
for He is Lord of all,
sing hallelujah Christ is risen.
