Luke 11:27-28

Luke 11:27-28

And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Luke 11:27-28

Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), and that prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus (Luke 1:27). The woman who cried out in adoration may or may not have known of the miraculous nature of Jesus’ birth, but Jesus certainly did, and He knew the singularly special involvement of His mother Mary. Yet given that, Jesus proclaims a greater blessing on those who hear the word of God and keep it.

The significance of our obedience is just as important as how Jesus entered the world. Jesus entered the world miraculously, and through the gift of faith, we responded to the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. God sent Jesus to reconcile us to Him, and Jesus freely took on flesh and walked a sinless life so that His death would offer the perfect sacrifice for our sin. We Christians have heard the calling of the Holy Spirit and responded by repenting of our sin, therefore inheriting, “an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade way, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4).

We responded to the good news of the gospel, and we were blessed with an eternity with Jesus, and while we are walking our life here on earth, we hear the word of God and apply it to our life, increasing our spiritual blessing all the more. There cannot be a greater blessing than the hope that we have in Jesus! Do you realize the treasure that you possess? (2 Corinthians 4:17)
