Mark 1:21-22
Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Mark 1:21-22
Why would the people hearing Jesus say He spoke with authority? Because when Jesus taught, He didn’t quote anyone else or rely on what had been said before. It was almost as if He had written the scriptures Himself. You think??? Unlike the scribes who relied on quoting others, Jesus spoke with divine authority that came directly from His Father. The truth that rises from the page of scripture is that the One that you serve, that you have entrusted your life to, has authority. And we need to be confident of that.
This same Jesus, with all authority in heaven and on earth, calls us to follow Him with all the confidence and submission of a soldier marching behind his commander into battle. Are there any areas in your life where you may be resisting His authority. Does either fear or arrogance and self-reliance keep you from submitting? Jesus’ authority is not meant to oppress us, but to free us from the bondage of sin and empower us to live in His kingdom.
