Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

When training a young ox to pull with a yoke they would often pair him with an older, experienced ox. Jesus invites us to be yoked together with Him and find rest in Him, not just physical rest, but a deep spiritual rest for our souls. In a world that often feels chaotic and demanding, we’re called to enter into God’s rest. This isn’t about inactivity, but about ceasing from our own striving and trusting fully in God’s provision and care. Jesus gives us permission to stop bearing burdens He didn’t call us to bear; to stop doing works that He didn’t call us to do. We’re called to take our lead from Him.

I’m sure there are areas of your life where you feel burdened or weary. Know Jesus is right next to you bearing that burden with you. How might you respond to Jesus’ invitation to “Come to me”? Consider practical ways you can cast your cares upon Him today, allowing His peace to permeate your heart and mind.
