Matthew 25:1-4

Matthew 25:1-4

Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Matthew 25:1-4

The parable of the wise and foolish virgins teaches us the importance of spiritual preparedness. In an age where the return of Christ could be at any moment, how do we ensure our lamps are full and our wicks are trimmed? It’s not about fearful obsession, but joyful expectation. Are we longing for His appearing? We should not be scared. We should be the most prepared.

A good place to start is to examine our spiritual habits. Are we consistently nurturing our relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship?  What does it mean for you to have “extra oil” – perhaps it’s cultivating a deeper trust in God’s promises or developing a more robust prayer life. Remember, we prepare not out of anxiety, but out of love for our coming Bridegroom. “Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning.”
