Matthew 3:4-6
And John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
Matthew 3:4-6
John wasn’t your average looking preacher with his camel’s hair coat and big leather belt. And probably not the kind of guy you would want to send your daughter out on a date with. Also, his diet wasn’t what you would expect. I don’t remember seeing “grasshoppers and honey” at the last church potluck.
But nonetheless, hundreds came to listen to him and respond to his message. Why? Well, it wasn’t because of how he looked or what he ate, it was because he preached the message that the Lord gave to him.
We may seem out of place in this world with our view of life and our attitude toward the things of this world. But we have a message that works because the Lord has given it to us. The Gospel speaks to the deepest need of every man, to know and have a relationship with God.
Like John, we have been given a calling to go and share what we have been given.
