Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
Matthew 5:13
Salt is an interesting thing. It does enhance the flavor of food, but it doesn’t disappear. Even though the food tastes different, it will still taste “salty.” This is why Jesus uses this great metaphor. Notice it says, “You ARE the salt of the earth,” not you will be or will become. The moment we give our lives to Jesus we start flavoring those around us. And salt makes people thirsty. “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.” That may be true but you sure can salt his oats.
However, if we allow ourselves to be watered-down, tasteless, bland and “just like the world around us” kind of Christians, we will lose our testimony and thus our ability to add meaning to people’s lives. We’ll be unable to create a thirst for spiritual things. So stay salty and bring the wonderful flavor of God to those around you.
Needs salt…
