Matthew 5:13-16

Matthew 5:13-16

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus calls us to be “salt and light” in a world that often prefers darkness. Today, our world desperately needs the hope and truth of the gospel. Rather than withdrawing from society or becoming angry at its failings, we’re called to engage our culture with Christ’s love and truth. We are the only hope for this nation. The Christian has the only message that will illuminate the minds of people who are lost in darkness.

Pray for discernment in how you can be a godly, transformative refection of Jesus in your sphere of influence. Ask God to help you maintain a heart of compassion for those who don’t yet know Him, remembering the heart of Jesus as He said on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
