Matthew 5:23-24

Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Like it or not, our vertical relationship with God is intimately connected to our horizontal relationships with others. Unresolved conflicts and mistreatment of others can hinder our spiritual lives and even our prayers and worship. Jesus makes it simple; leave your gift, go make peace, and then come back.

This may be a good time to search our hearts. Are there any relationships in need of reconciliation? Any attitudes that need adjustment? Is there anyone that we need to ask forgiveness from? Take steps to address these issues, knowing that a clear conscience before others opens the way for deeper communion with God.
