Matthew 5:7

Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

Matthew 5:7

If you find yourself “poor in Spirit”, “mourning over your sinful state”, “meekly seeking to be led by God”, and “hungering and thirsting after a Godly life” as we read in the four previous verses, then you should be a pretty merciful person.

If you have found the grace of God, Grace is receiving what you don’t deserve, then the Mercy of God should be yours as well because Mercy is not getting what you do deserve. It deals with the consequences of being a sinner.

Mercy is such an important trait to have in the life of the believer, because if we aren’t giving it out, we will not receive it. Not that being merciful saves us, but our willingness to extend the mercy we have received to others is an indication that we are saved! Much like the way Jesus spoke about forgiveness, telling us that if we don’t give it out, we will not receive it. That’s pretty heavy! Jesus says in Luke 6, “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you: in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”.

God help us to be willing to give to others the same things that we have received from our wonderful Lord and Savior.
