Matthew 6:25, 31, 33

Matthew 6:25, 31, 33

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?… “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’… But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Matthew 6:25, 31, 33

This world has an incredible magnetic pull on all who seek to follow Jesus. In the parable of the Sower, Jesus warned about the “cares of this world” choking out the Word of God. In Matthew, He teaches us not to worry about earthly needs, but to seek first God’s kingdom. What worldly concerns tend to dominate your thoughts and time? Are they worth the possible loss of your perception of God?

If that’s true we can certainly do something about it and simply practice intentionally shifting our focus from these concerns to God’s priorities. When worries arise, turn them into prayers. When uncertainly looms, look to His steadfast love. When hardships come your way, turn them into trust, believing in God’s provision and seeking His kingdom above all else.
