A message from the series “Obadiah-Jonah 2009.” Obadiah, unlike most of the prophets who prophesied to the Jews, directed his prophecy to the nation of Edom telling of its coming destruction because of its anti-semitism toward the people of God. Edom was a relative of Israel since they were descendants of Esau.
Jonah was the only Jewish prophet who, all be it reluctantly, went outside the borders of Israel because God had called him to go to Nineveh of Assyria. In chapter three we find one of the most amazing stories of repentance and revival recorded in the Scriptures. Of course Jonah is mainly known for his unique means of transportation by being transported in the belly of a great fish.
A message from the series “Amos 2009.” Amos, one of two prophets sent by God to the Northern Kingdom of Israel (the other was Hosea), was God’s call to this wayward kingdom to return to Him. Through Amos He pleads for their return warning them of the coming destruction if they don’t repent. Because they did not repent, God had no choice but to foretell of the coming destruction and dispersion. Yet in spite of their rejection of Him, God through Amos ends this prophetic book by describing the ultimate restoration of the Kingdom when Jesus, the Messiah, will come.
A message from the series “Amos 2009.” Like most of the minor prophets, Amos’ message is that of coming judgment due to sin. Amos, who was a shepherd, was sent by God in the days of king Uzziah to cry out to the Northern Kingdom of Israel announcing the coming judgment of God. Again and again, he enumerates the sin of the people and God and the resulting judgment for their sin showing to them and us that the wages of sin is death.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” These last few chapters of Ezekiel are all future prophecies that will be fulfilled during the millennial reign of Jesus Christ. During that time, sacrificial worship will be restored to the nation of Israel, which will be memorial sacrifices all pointing to the work that Jesus did on the cross. Additionally, God’s word describes the division of the land and Israel’s national boundaries. One of the most amazing things that will happen is a river will flow out from under the Temple toward the East and heal the Dead Sea.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” In chapters 38-39 we find the prophetic account when Russia will invade Israel. In fact there is an alliance of Russia with several Arab countries for the purpose of looting Israel of valuable resources. However, God defends this little nation by destroying this invading army causing Israel to embark on a cleanup detail that lasts for months. In chapters 40 on, we see Israel in the millenium building a memorial temple to honor the Lord Jesus Christ.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” As we move further into Ezekiel’s prophecy, we also move further into the prophetic future when God will restore the nation and land of Israel. To some extent, we have already seen some of Ezekiel’s prophecy fulfilled such as the nation having been restored and the Jews returning to their homeland. This restoration will continue for some time to come and extend into the Millenium.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” Chapters 31 and 32 are God’s prophetic words to Egypt saying to the Egyptians that their nation will be invaded by the Babylonians and that the glory of their kingdom will be taken away. Chapter 33 is God’s words to Ezekiel telling him that he has been made a watchman to warn the people of Israel of the coming judgment. As a watchman, God was going to hold him responsible to warn the people hoping they would heed the warning and turn to the Lord.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” Throughout Israel’s history there were nations all around that were enemies of God’s people. When Ezekiel announced the coming judgment that Israel would face, he also told of how God would judge Israel’s enemies for their treatment of Israel. Early on, God told Abraham that He would bless those who would bless his descendants and curse those who would curse God’s people (Gen. 12:1-3).
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” The Lord gave Ezekiel an allegorical story about two sisters who had one mother. This story was to represent the fact that Israel after the death of Solomon, divided into two kingdoms, Israel and Judah. He went on to say that these two sisters were harlots whose unfaithful ways stemmed from ancient times. This story depicted the nation of Israel, who even during it’s sojourn in Eqypt was unfaithful and that unfaithfulness carried all the way into Ezekiel’s day in spite of the fact that God had given this nation great blessings and love and certainly every reason for her to be faithful to Him. As a result, God had no choice but to bring judgment and chastisement upon His beloved people.
A message from the series “Ezekiel 2009.” In these chapters, God continues with His indictment against the Children of Israel citing their continuous rebellious nature throughout their history. As a result they have corrupted themselves beyond measure leaving God with no choice but to bring judgment and destruction upon the people of Jerusalem. In light of the coming judgment, God tells Ezekiel that He looked for just one man who would stand in the gap and and make intercession, but He found none. What was true then, holds true today. God is looking for those who are faithful and willing to stand before Him and intercede for lives of people.
