A message from the series “1 & 2 Kings 2005-2006.” After Solomon’s death and the kingdom becomes divided, the book of Kings then chronicles the many descendants that sat upon the thrones of Judah in the South and Israel in the North. The South had a few good kings whereas the North never had a good king. Chapter sixteen ends with Ahab becoming king in the North, who was more wicked than any king who had gone before.

A message from the series “1 & 2 Kings 2005-2006.” There was never a king in Israel that was elevated to heights in the eyes of the world like that of Solomon. However, this great exhalation was Solomon’s downfall that cause him to forsake the Lord through his hundreds of marriages to non-Israelite women who turned his heart away from God. Because of this, God rebuked Solomon and told him that his kingdom would not last beyond his reign and indeed it didn’t. After Solomon died, the Kingdom divided with eleven tribes seceding and forming their own kingdom choosing Jeroboam to be king.

A message from the series “1 & 2 Kings 2005-2006.” Before David died, he had accumulated all the material for his son, Solomon, to use to build the Temple. Once Solomon became established, he commenced building the Temple, which took seven years to construct. In addition, he built his own palace, which took 13 years to complete. Chapter eight of this study describes the dedication of the Temple and Solomon’s sermon and lengthy prayer of dedication.
