The book of Job marks the beginning of what is known as the poetical books of the Bible. As such, the style of writing is much different from that of the historical books that precede. Job is perhaps the oldest book based on the time of the events. It seems that Job was a contemporary of Abraham. God gives us many insights into the real world through this rich book. For instance, we see the ways of Satan, the purposes of God, the need for every man, even as good as Job, to repent and turn to God. We also get insight as to why the righteous suffer plus the foolish counsels that come from man. Most importantly we see the need to live our lives with a conscious awareness of the care and oversight of God.
