I love reading the Psalms.

Most of the psalms can be classified into 5 categories:

1.  Hymns: a call to worship and the giving of reasons why God should be praised.

2.  Laments: expressing distress or calamity and asking God for help; often accompanied by a confession of sin. They usually end with confidence God has heard and will move or answer even when the answer is not yet forthcoming.

3.  Thanksgiving: Often thanking God for answering prior cries for help. These are psalms of remembrance that declare with confidence God’s ways and His love. 

4.  Wisdom: Psalms that contrast the ways of life of the world and the believer. Psalm 1 is a perfect example.

5.  Kingship: Focusing on the Jewish monarchy and looking ahead prophetically to Jesus’ coming to rule and reign.

Try reading one psalm a day and focusing on its lesson throughout that day
