Philemon 1

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house.

It is interesting that Paul starts off this letter not as Paul the Apostle but as a prisoner of Jesus Christ. As Paul wrote this letter, he was in a Roman prison, but that is not what held him. Paul was held by his love and faith in his Lord Jesus Christ. He was no longer his own!

That is how Paul lived his life, and as a Christian, that is how I ought to live my life as well. So, do you see yourself as a prisoner of Jesus? Do you do whatever Jesus wants you to do? Going wherever Jesus wants you to go? And saying whatever Jesus wants you to say? Jesus set us free from the old ways of life, so like Paul, let’s serve Him as a thankful prisoner!
