Philippians 3:7-8

Philippians 3:7-8

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
Philippians 3:7-8

Out of all the Pharisees, perhaps no one worked harder to please God than Saul of Tarsus. In every area of his life, he sought to keep to the Law, and no one could accuse him of lacking zeal concerning his mission to preserve the traditions and beliefs of the religious leaders of the day.

But it was on the road to Damascus that his life’s focus changed for all eternity because it was there that Saul met Jesus and called Him Lord. From then on, he would no longer strive to please God by his own works, instead he would press on with the goal of knowing Christ, considering “all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus as Lord.” It didn’t matter whether he was preaching to a crowd or sitting in a damp prison. Paul now had one goal to which everything in his life took a back seat, he wanted to know his Lord.

How about you? Is knowing Christ, fellowshipping, trusting, and depending on Him, the goal toward which you’re striving? God, help us press on to know Him today.
