Philippians 4:6

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

Here Paul is telling us not to worry not to torment ourselves with disturbing thoughts that consume us to the point where we start suffering, and the way we prevent that from happening is through prayer. It is important to understand God doesn’t expect us to never be anxious, we are all at some point going to worry and stress about something, but rather Christ tells us not to let anxiety or worries consume us where we forget who He is and who we are in Him. Prayer is the general word that indicates communicating with God. It comes with the idea of adoration, worship, and devotion. Supplication is directly asking God for what is needed. We are to ask for what we need with a thankful heart, one that prevents us from complaining.

When we start to count our blessings and start looking at what we have to be grateful for, our perspectives begin to change from our current situation that worries us to refocusing on God, the giver of all the great things that we have in our life. One way to be thankful is to remind yourself of all those times you were in a difficult situation but God intervened and got you through it. If you remove all of that, what He did on the cross on our behalf should be more than enough to move us with gratitude. It should move us to be thankful for our salvation.
