Proverbs 2:1-5
My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1-5
The proverbs are in the wisdom books of the Bible and can be a challenge to understand (Proverbs 1:6) and so it is through prayer and patient learning that they prepare us for life’s challenges. Some proverbs are readily seen, while others require much thought. It is not just a book of human wisdom but contains the very wisdom of God imparted through Solomon and others to us.
The word proverb (mashal) means “parable,” “compared with,” “to be like,” and sometimes “ruled by.” These are contrasts or comparisons of things readily understood to teach difficult truths. The proverbs are less doctrinal and more practical and able to be quickly applied to daily living. Though every culture has its own proverbs, these are distinct because they are God’s word to us.
Read our simple verses today and hear the Lord tell us we need to seek His wisdom and apply it to our hearts and lives. Today, with your Bible out, ask God to make you wiser and enable you to do what you learn!
Loving the way His word changes my life day by day,
