Proverbs 3:3
Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.
Proverbs 3:3
Psalm 25:10 tells us that, “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies”, and our Proverb today commands to not let that mercy and truth, i.e., God’s path, forsake you. This is not a passive endeavor, and, in fact, requires diligent attention, and Solomon illustrates this by saying, “bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” The enemy wants to knock us off the path of God, and additionally, our flesh, has a natural tendency to divert us from God’s path.
But we have the Holy Spirit living in us, and if we yield to the Spirit, His power will keep us close to God. By His power, we can wait upon God and are able to cry out, “Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long” (Psalm 25:4-5). Lord, we know that sometimes we do not do what we will to do, but our heart’s desire is to walk in Your ways. By Your Spirit, lead us in your truth and teach us.
