Keep your hearts with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:23

As we walk with God and face the issues of life, there are choices and decisions we need to make daily. And our hearts are at the core of every decision we make.  So Solomon writes, “Keep your hearts with all diligence.”

Our hearts will eventually determine the way we live our lives and how we speak to others. Jesus said in Matthew 12:34 that “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” If you hang around someone long enough, you will know what their heart is like by what they say, by what they do, and by how they treat others.

Solomon learned that he could know God in his head and yet his heart was not always right, so he urges us to protect it!  Protect your heart diligently by studying God’s word each and every day and standing on the promises of God!  So when the issues of life come up, go back to God’s word and His promises.
