Psalm 107:26b-31
…Their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits’ end. Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:26b-31
This passage beautifully parallels the disciples’ experience on the sea, highlighting the pattern of distress, crying out to God, and His faithful deliverance. It reminds us that our moments of desperation are opportunities to experience God’s saving power. The psalm concludes with a call to praise God for His goodness—a response we often neglect in our relief, once the storm has passed.
For the believer, we’re always going into a storm, coming out of a storm, or preparing for the next storm. Reflect on a time when God delivered you from trouble. How can you cultivate a heart of gratitude and praise, even before you see the resolution to your current challenges? Because no matter how furious the storms in your life rage, Jesus is capable to completely calm them with a single word.
