Psalm 117
1 Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!
2 For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!
Psalm 117
Thought we would take a moment today and read through an entire Psalm together. Yep! That’s it! Psalm 117 has all of two verses. I think it may be the shortest chapter in the Bible.
My father was a man of few words. He didn’t talk a lot but when he spoke you always wanted to listen because his words, though few, were often very wise and profound. The psalmist of 117 is able to say in just two verses all that need be said to draw us closer to our loving Lord.
He starts off with a command. Everyone, Jew and Gentile alike, give God the honor that He is due. Be willing to submit to His Lordship by worshiping and praising Him. Then he gives us a reason to praise. God’s kindness through His mercy, which we don’t deserve, is not just given but lavished on us in great measure. That means God shows us kindness in those times when He should show us wrath and punishment. Finally, he encourages us with a promise. We can rest and have great joy and assurance in our relationship with the Lord because His truth, which never changes, will last forever. The only thing left to do in response to this simple Psalm is, “Praise the Lord!!!”
