Psalm 42:1-2, 5
As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?…Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, For the help of His countenance.
Psalm 42:1-2, 5
The psalmist expresses a deep longing for God, comparing it to a deer, running from a hunter, panting for life-giving water. In our busy lives, it’s easy to lose this intense desire for God’s presence. Where is your own spiritual thirst? Are you experiencing dryness in your relationship with God? The psalmist encourages us to hope in God even when our souls feel downcast.
Today, make a conscious effort to cultivate a thirst for God. Set aside distractions and spend time in prayer, asking God to renew your passion for Him. Consider fasting from something that often takes His place in your affections.
