Psalm 90:12

Psalm 90:12

So, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

The consensus tells us that Moses wrote this Psalm during a time when the nation had rebelled in unbelief. God then announced that everyone twenty years old and older would die in the next forty years. Truly we need to learn to number our days just as Moses prayed the rebellious nation would. To number our days is to live each day one at a time and not take any moment for granted. As Christians, we are told to not count on tomorrow for we are not guaranteed it. Each day is a blessing in of itself and should be treasured.

I found another translation of this verse and it reads, “So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” I prefer this version because it tells us that we are not to take our days for granted but rather we should be looking to present them as holy offerings to God. If I only live for myself, then I will look to make the most of my days for me.

But if I understand that each day is a gift from God and that I should live for Him, then I will seek to present my days to Him and Him only. It is by taking a different perspective that my heart of wisdom shifts from benefitting me to benefitting Him! Let us learn to number our days that we might present something to Him every day.

God Bless,
