Romans 5:3-5
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:3-5
The Bible teaches that our sufferings have a purpose – to refine us like gold. It can be anything from a catastrophic illness, to a child gone wayward, to a financial crisis… you can fill in the blank. Paul echoes this truth in the verses above, showing how tribulations produce perseverance, character, and hope.
As we face these struggles in our life, instead of asking “Why me?”, try asking “What are You teaching me, Lord?” And then look for ways God might be using this situation to build your character or deepen your faith. Be willing to cooperate with God’s refining process? Don’t resist His finishing work. And always keep in mind, He’s not trying to destroy you, but to mold you more into the image of Christ.
