Romans 8:15-16

Romans 8:15-16

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

Romans 8:15-16

Adoptions are complicated to say the least. Many details go into bringing a person into a permanent family setting and then all fingers get crossed while things settle in. Being adopted as children of God as is spiritual and incomprehensible. When our spiritual adoption as Christians takes place, we receive the assurance we are brought into more than just any family. Being adopted, biblically, means that we have become true sons and daughters of the King.

God welcomes us into His family and loves us as He loves His own Son. As such, He has given us His Spirit to dwell inside us and intercede for us. In Roman culture, a reputable witness was required for an adoption to be legally binding. In the case of our salvation, it is the Holy Spirit Himself who “bears witness with our spirit to confirm that we are indeed children of God. We no longer fear death because He who adopted us already conquered death. We can take solace in knowing that our eternal destination in Heaven is guaranteed because we are truly sons and daughters of the King in every familial sense of the word.

God Bless,
