Zephaniah 2:3
Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD’S anger.
Zephaniah 2:3
In chapter 1, Zephaniah proclaims the coming judgment upon Judah. The people had strayed far from God. There were worshipping Baal, Molech, and the host of heaven, or they were in a state of complacency concerning the ways of God, or they had turned from following the Lord. Because of their wickedness, God’s wrath was coming.
However, God being ready to deliver judgment is also compassionate and provides a means of deliverance in chapter 2’s first three verses. Verse three offers deliverance by commanding the people to seek righteousness and humility. Our God is holy and just as well as compassionate and merciful, and He will always provide a means of salvation.
For us Christians, the means of salvation is God’s greatest gift of all: His Son Jesus. We too were once consumed by our sin and were due the judgment of God, but we were offered hope and restoration through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection three days later. Now we have life and can walk in a right relationship with God. How thankful we are that God was merciful and gracious to each one of us.
