But Micaiah said, “If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Take heed, all you people!”

            There’s a mistaken mentality the Bible has only good to say. It’s all about God’s blessings, God’s love, and salvation without repentance. That’s what’s interesting about the story of Micaiah, a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel. He had a reputation for speaking the truth. When Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah asked the king of Israel, Ahab, if there was a prophet of the Lord in the Northern Kingdom, he said, “There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil” (1 Kings 22:8).

            In the verse above, after Micaiah has spoken his prophecy, he tells the king, if you return in peace, then my words aren’t from the Lord. While our speech should be sprinkled with salt while talking to others, it’s also important to tell the truth. And sometimes that truth isn’t going to make you any friends. It didn’t for Micaiah, who despite his truth-telling, was hated by his king.
