1 Samuel 30:6

1 Samuel 30:6

Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

1 Samuel 30:6

This is the low point of David’s early life before he was king. He had been running from King Saul and hiding among the Philistines. He comes back from war one day to find his city attacked and all his loyal followers’ families taken captive. They are grieved and speak of stoning him for his failure.

He does the only thing he can do; He strengthens himself in the Lord. He gives all his troubles to God. He takes his problems before the Lord and asks for his Heavenly Father’s help.

David found himself at the end of his self-reliance like we often find ourselves. But it was there that the Lord was waiting all along, waiting for David to come back to him. It will be there that the Lord will be waiting for us too. Waiting for us to do what we should do from the start; give our burdens to God.

Strengthened in the Lord,

David Reeves
