2 Kings 18:1, 3-4

Now it came to pass…. that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign…. And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father David had done. He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made…

2 Kings 18:1, 3-4

Hezekiah became king in Judah after a long line of kings.  Many of his predecessors had reigned in the compromise of trying to worship God along with their idols. Hezekiah was the first king in Judah to take down the idols and the places where they were worshiped.  I once heard the definition of an idol as “a substitute for the real thing.”

Is there anything in our lives that we are substituting for God; our possessions, our relationships, our jobs, or our vices?  Have you wondered why there’s a lack of peace in your heart? Like Hezekiah, we simply need to place God before everything else and live an uncompromised life.  As Jesus said “No one can serve two masters”.  (Matthew 6:24)
