Daniel 5:20-21

Daniel 5:20-21

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.

Daniel 5:20-21

Belshazzar was Nebuchadnezzar’s grandson and the focus of Daniel 5, which gives us the details of the overthrow of Babylon in one day. Daniel describes what Nebuchadnezzar had been like in his early days and how through suffering and loss, he had come to know the God of Israel and surrender his life to Him (Daniel 4). Now his grandson didn’t heed the warnings and lessons and here in Daniel 5 has arrived at the last day of his life to face God’s wrath.

How foolish to ignore the lessons of history and our immediate past. God seeks to call us to Himself. Be ready to respond when he does and do not ignore His loving gracious call!

Ready to meet my Lord,
