Someone once said that our Christian mission is a simple three-step process. We are “to know, to grow, and then to go.” This statement is putting things simply; however, it speaks volumes for what a disciple is to be doing. A disciple of Jesus is to be a disciple-maker. It is not enough to merely put our faith in Jesus Christ and go on with our day. We should be in a constant state of growth and exploration into the heart of the King of kings so that we may be sent out to make other disciples. Jesus never intended the disciples to keep all that good news to themselves. This was the call to action, when He gave them the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

One of Jesus’ tasks was to model what a disciple was to look like. By His acts of service, supplication, and ultimate sacrifice, Jesus was telling the disciples that reproduction is the very essence of what it means to be a follower of Him. Christians are disciple-makers whose job it is to make more disciples. John Piper writes, “As long as there is time, and as long as there are nations to reach, Jesus’ demand to go and make disciples is valid.” Our call to action to go forth and make disciples of all the nations has never been more crucial than it is today. I would encourage that when you speak to someone about who Jesus is, it would be with the intent of disciple making and reproduction for the kingdom of Jesus.
