Proverbs 2:1-5

Proverbs 2:1-5

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:1-5

Solomon starts off Proverbs 2 by encouraging his son to ”receive my words.”  You see, it is more than just hearing, it is more than just recognizing the concepts, the sayings of God are to be received.  Caught and held onto, like an outfielder catching a fly ball.

When my daughter was growing up I coached her softball team.  We ran many drills, and we often ran fielding drills for the outfielders.  And when a ball was hit their way, they were taught to always yell out, ”I got it!”

And that is how we should react to God’s word, “I got it!”  And as we do, more and more, we will understand the fear of the Lord.  And it all starts with receiving His words.  “I got it!”

Receiving His word,
