When my wife graduated with her master’s degree, the graduation ceremony took place in beautiful sunny San Diego. My father owned a bright red Porsche at the time and offered to let us drive it down to the ceremony in style to the swanky hotel where the ceremony was taking place. I can only imagine how we must have looked at the time to onlookers. There we were, a young couple pulling up in their red Porsche and casually tossing the keys to the valet. We probably looked like we were pretty well off and had it all together.

 The truth of the matter was that we gladly accepted the car offer because it probably ran better than our older cars and we got a free tank of gas! We were also newly married and had yet to even think we had it all together. That was almost 20 years ago but to this day, I try my best to not judge a book by its cover. We should be looking to the hearts of one another and not at what we think they are representing. Let’s not look down at others, or up to them as well, until we know all the facts and the contents of their hearts. Sometimes things are not what they seem. Now when I see someone who looks rich, I don’t automatically think they are. They might be in the midst of being blessed or maybe have had a little grace bestowed upon them like we once did. Let’s not judge those books by their covers. Judgment is reserved for God alone.
