Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24
Here Jesus illustrates one of the greatest struggles of our modern industrial and technological society. Only one Master can be master. Either Jesus Christ is our Lord, or money is our lord. It can’t be both. It’s a matter of the will. In the Christian life, that has enthroned Jesus as Lord, there is no room for competing loyalties. (You worship what you serve and you serve what you worship.)
You will be the most miserable among men, if you allow yourself to be a mug-womp (having you mug on one side of the fence and your womp on the other). Many Christians believe they can balance the passionate pursuit of Christ with the passionate pursuit of riches, or give equal time to both. But as Paul said, “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.” 1 Timothy 6:9
Either you possess your possessions of they possess you!
