Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3
Poverty can often be frowned upon in society. But being poor can have its benefits. When someone is poor, they are often aware of their needs.
Biblically speaking, being poor, specifically spiritually poor, allows us to be in a place where we are aware of our own spiritual needs. It allows us to understand that we have a need we cannot meet by ourselves. Being aware of our spiritual poverty moves us to go to the Lord, to the One who gives in abundance and fills our spiritual needs.
This is why those who are spiritually poor will be part of the kingdom of heaven, because they will know that their needs will be met not of themselves, but out of the provisions of the Lord. They will go to Him knowing they have nothing to offer. Philippians 4:19 states, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
May we remember that our spiritual needs cannot be met by anything that we do but only by Christ. Being spiritually poor allows us to find blessing in having our spiritual needs met by a loving God who is always ready to provide.
For His Kingdom,
