Matthew 9:36-38

Matthew 9:36-38

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:36-38

Matthew gives us plenty of examples in this chapter of the power of God to heal man’s physical infirmities, but he didn’t want us to think that was all that Jesus was concerned with.

Jesus saw their infirmities and need for healing, but all of that just pointed to their spiritual need. “They were sheep without a shepherd, weary and scattered”, and as He was “moved with compassion for them,” what does He do? He says to His disciples, look! “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” The sheep needed care, and God’s answer is to send laborers into the fields to reap a great harvest, but who is He going to send? Jesus’ answer is, pray that God would move on His people to go. The harvest is right outside your door!
