James 3:13

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

James 3:13

James says here, “Who is wise and understanding among you?” You know some can have great knowledge but not be very wise. There are those who have spent many years in school, have diplomas on their walls, and a bunch of letters after their names, but what good is all of that if you don’t do anything with it? Now I’m not saying that education isn’t good. I’m sure glad that my doctor put all that time in school. But at the same time, I wouldn’t want a doctor who read all the books, passed all the tests, and graduated with honors, but never took the time to examine me before he started cutting. “Are you sure I need my spleen taken out, Doc?” “Don’t worry about that, I’ll have you open and shut in no time.” It’s not enough to just know how to perform the operation, but to have the wisdom to know when it is necessary.

You see knowledge is great but wisdom is knowing how to use that knowledge you have learned, and as a Christian, if we want to be wise we have to make sound judgments in whatever position God places us.

As believers, we need to not only know scripture but be able to apply it correctly in “meekness of wisdom,” that through our good conduct the wisdom of God might be seen in us.
