1 Corinthians 10:13

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

One of my pet peeves is when Scripture gets misquoted. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, “God never gives us more than we can handle,” I would be rich. In fact, God will absolutely allow us to take on more than we are capable of handling. The above verse has been quoted and reworded throughout the years to lead us to believe that God knows our human limits and will never give us more than we can bear. But the truth of the matter is that we will endure hardships and they will always feel like more than we can handle.

The Bible tells us that although temptation will plague all mankind at one time or another, it is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can be victorious. The power of God is what will rescue us from temptation and it is that same power that can help us through our difficult times. Indeed, we are built resilient and in the image of God, but our marred image will always need to rely on His strength and His provision in order to overcome adversity. I wish I could say that God will never pile more on my plate than I can devour. But unfortunately, the world can be rough, and the repercussions of sin will continue to challenge us. But be of good cheer, for the One who has already conquered the world is in your corner fighting for you.

Rest easy in Him,

Paul Provencio
