Joshua 6:4-5
“…But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat.”
Joshua 6:4-5
God had given Joshua very specific instructions on how he should breach the walls of Jericho and take the city. Why not just march one day and shout? What was special about doing it God’s instructed way when the horns were ready and the people were already assembled? Was there magic in the form of waiting until the seventh day, or could the task have been accomplished on day six? The answer to those questions is because God said to do it this way! God has a reason, a plan, and a purpose for everything that He asks of us.
Sometimes, we think we are so smart and think we know better when, in fact, God is just trying to get us to obey. We’ve all heard a parent tell a child, “Because I said so!” It is not for them to question the parent but to obey. It was God who brought the walls down, not the marching. So, if He had said it would be necessary to march three days, then it would have happened that way. The point is, stop questioning God’s methods. The Israelites needed to learn this. Faith requires us to follow God’s lead no matter what that looks like to us. Just say, “Yes, Lord,” and march!
