“Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.“

As God’s people, we have been given great advantages in this life — the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and the Word of God to guide our steps! Both His Word and Spirit enable us to escape the world and the flesh, and discover the life God has for His own. So it should come as no surprise that our struggle would be with the cares of the world around us. Worry, pressure, and desire for gain all join together to oppose our walks with God, His Word, and His Spirit. In fact, Jesus says here that those very things can begin to choke out His Word and leave us empty, without any fruitfulness.

Guard your heart and allow His Word to make top billing in your life. When a conflict between what He declares and your wants arise, let His ways win your heart. Don’t be ripped off!
