1 Peter 2:9

1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9

I’ve heard it said, “Men don’t write like that anymore.” But indeed, the beautiful words written by Simon Peter to the pilgrims and the dispersed still apply to us. Peter was addressing those who resided in a land not their own. Maybe you can relate to that. Nonetheless, the same God of the Old and New Testament is the same God whose Spirit lives in us today. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is our God as well. Calling someone a chosen generation or a royal priesthood might sound strange, but to those who reside in Christ, they words are true.

You and I are a chosen generation who have been called out of darkness into God’s marvelous light so that we may be His ambassadors for the gospel message. Jesus is our royal priest, and we are his royal priesthood. It might be hard for us to see ourselves as that, but that is how Jesus sees us. That is probably why Peter used this language to address those he did. Some therapists claim it is sometimes necessary to use “shock” words to get the point across. So, let this shock you; “You and I are indeed a royal priesthood. We are a chosen generation and a holy nation that can freely proclaim praises of God.” Why? Because we have been called out of darkness to do so. Proclaim Him today in all you say and do!

God Bless,
