Luke 19:42
Saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
Luke 19:42
The day Jesus entered in Jerusalem on a donkey about a week before His death and resurrection is one of the most important days in history. It is a day prophesied about in Daniel 9 and supported by Zechariah 9. According to Daniel, this would be the very day the Messiah would declare Himself to be King by riding on the foal of a donkey.
Jesus says to the Jews in the above verse they are responsible for knowing this day. Because they missed it, they’re missing the coming of the Messiah. That seems a little harsh. Daniel’s prophecy doesn’t seem all that clear. Sir Robert Anderson had to write a whole book in 1894 on this subject.
Yet the Jews and Gentiles alike are responsible for knowing their Bible, being able to properly interpret it, and follow it. The Scriptures aren’t only for the religious leaders – pastors and priests, for instance — but for everyone. It’s important we read and study our Bibles.
Praying for wisdom,
